A bright emerald cover.A glorious cover illustration with Dorothy and her friends about to set off for Oz on the yellow brick road. And the title The Wizard of Oz in big bold emerald letters.I challenge you not to sing We re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz This modern retelling of a children s classic is a good introduction for little ones who have yet to make their first trip to the wonderland land of Oz The inviting cover will lure them in while Julia Sarda s charming illustrations will make them want to keep turning the pages until the end There are numerous full page illustrations to enchant the young reader while the smaller illustrations provide the depth that is sometimes missing from the text which is intentionally simplistic.A nice touch is that the first few illustrations depicting events in Kansas have a sepia like quality, and the illustrations turn to full glorious colour as soon as Dorothy lands in Oz Rather like the famous movie With almost 70 pages, this book has the right balance of text and pictures to please both very young children and older ones seeking to gain confidence in reading for themselves And adults will find this a welcome addition to their Oz library.

A beautifully illustrated book for the young reader Unlike some illustrated books, this one has at least one illustration per double spread, so no wall of text, and always something to show the kids if you are reading for them.Oh, and the illustrations are gorgeous.A bit towards edgy rather than the highly detailed work in some of the books we have by the likes of Vladislav Erko , but this book sits very well on the same quality books for kids bookshelf. The one we received is a first print, so if you are a collector, best to get in quickly Julia Sarda is a young illustrator, but by the looks of her work, will become very collectible.Overall well recommended, for both young kids with an imagination and adults who value good first edition illustration.

This book is wonderfully reminiscent of childhood as it retells a well known story The emerald cover shimmers like you imagine The Emerald City to and the illustrations of Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion are adorable. The story itself is told fantastically and at times the layout shifts to suit the moment in the story such as when Kansas is hit by the tornado. It s a book I can see being bought as a keepsake for a very big fan of all things Wizard of Oz or a book to share with children, for them to keep as they grow older.

Although I am not really a fan of abridged books, this is a lovely introduction to, The Wizard of Oz, for younger readers ideal for approx 7.This is an attractive hardback, with lots of colour illustrations There are no chapters, which is a shame, as it might make it less daunting for young readers As such, it works better as a bedtime book, and, with the lovely pictures, it is a joy to share A lovely gift edition of a classic story.

OK so I agree the full version is a classic but for a book to help introduce classic writing to younger kids this one is one of the best I ve seen. Such a gorgeous inviting cover which looks amazing on the bookshelf and inside such a good story with amazing modern yet classically drawn illustrations This is a keeper for sure.
